What is an archive film? How can we use old films in a digital age? And how can archive films inspire new work, which makes us think differently about the past?
Welcome to Archivia, a place where you can explore films, places, people and history through the work of the eighteen projects supported by Screen South's Digital Film Archive Fund. Archivia describes life in the south east of England from the 1890s to the present day, through stories of home, place and identity.
This website provides an exciting opportunity to discover the many ways in which communities, young people, organisations and film-makers have engaged with archive film. The projects have taken a variety of forms: the production of new films, touring programmes, exhibitions in galleries, online sites, community-based explorations of local film and interactive media.
We hope that, in Archivia, you'll discover the many ways that archive film can inspire and entertain - and that you'll add your own comments, memories and ideas.
