The Record Office acquires, preserves and makes publicly available the documented and recorded heritage of the county. Anyone may access these documents at the County Record Office free of charge.

The West Sussex Record Office holds records from a variety of sources including film and video archives, military history, the railways and archives of country estates such as Goodwood and Petworth.
